Pit Lake
The Anaconda Copper Corporation broke ground in 1950. Through the years, it became the 3rd largest open pit copper mine in the world before the price of copper forced a closure in 1978. From the point where the above picture was taken to the other side of the water is just over one mile. The City of Yerington can bee seen in the background. Don't miss stopping at the look at point, located at Weed Heights, to view the pit lake and the entire valley.
